The Edinboro Alumni Social Network is provided by the University and is designed to facilitate communication among alumni for personal or University-related purposes.

A. Privacy and Security

The University has not, does not, and will never sell alumni information to anyone. All alumni information is strictly guarded for use by individual alumni and the University for personal and University-related purposes only. The University has taken all reasonable precautions to secure the personal information available through the Web site. The Edinboro University Alumni Social Network is password protected to allow access by registered University alumni only. Although this precaution should effectively protect any personal information available through the Alumni Social Network from abuse or outside interference, a certain degree of privacy risk is faced any time information is shared over the Internet. The CAN-SPAM Act, short for "Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act," seeks to balance the free speech and commercial interests of the senders of unsolicited emails or "spammers," on the one hand, with the rights of the citizenry and internet service providers to be free of what has become an "assault" on e-mail accounts. In that regard, users of the Edinboro Alumni Social Network may “opt out” of receiving notifications and Email.

B. Policy and Guidelines for Proper Use

To safeguard the operation of the Edinboro University Alumni Social Network, we have adopted guidelines and policies that are used by the University to govern conduct particularly conduct that occurs in an online environment. In addition to the University's policies and guidelines, users of the Edinboro University Alumni Social Network must abide by the following specific rules and regulations:
1. Unauthorized copying, reproduction, republishing, uploading, downloading, posting, transmitting or duplicating any of the material is prohibited. 2. Use of information or communications available through the Edinboro Alumni Social Network for any commercial, public, or political purposes is strictly prohibited. Prohibited activities include, but are not limited to, solicitations for commercial services, cold-calling of any kind or mass-mailings for commercial purposes. Information available through Edinboro Alumni Social Network may be used for specific personal and University-related purposes only.
3. Users shall not restrict nor inhibit any other user from enjoying any service on the Edinboro University Alumni Web site. Posting of obscene materials or use of obscene language, posting of vulgar materials, or use of vulgar language, or use of abusive, defamatory, profane, or threatening language of any kind, will constitute a violation of these policies governing the use of the Edinboro Alumni Social Network. Additionally, users shall not upload, transmit, distribute, or otherwise publish any materials containing a virus or any other harmful component.
4. All aliases adopted by Edinboro Alumni Social Network users are subject to approval by the University to ensure that the proper image is associated with the institution.
5. The University is not responsible for screening communications in advance, and neither the University nor the Association will actively monitor the use of Edinboro Alumni Social Network. For this reason, it is essential that the alumni users of the Edinboro Alumni Social Network report any abuses or misuse of Edinboro Alumni Social Network to the Alumni Office. If the University determines that a user's participation in the Edinboro Alumni Social Network creates a liability for the University or that the user has violated the policies set forth herein, the University reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take actions against the user. The University reserves the right to expel a user and deny a user further access to the Edinboro Alumni Social Network Web site if such user violates these policies or any applicable laws or regulations.

C. Liability and Indemnity

The reliability of the information available through the Edinboro Alumni Social Network Web site is dependent upon the actions of community registrants. The University can make no representations about the accuracy, reliability, completeness, or timeliness of this information. The University does not warrant that the Edinboro Alumni Social Network Web site will operate error-free or that the site and its server are free of computer viruses or other harmful material. To the fullest extent permitted by the law, the University disclaims all warranties, including the warranties of merchantability, non-infringement, and fitness for particular purpose. In no event shall the University be liable for any damages whatsoever, including, without limitation, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, resulting from the use of or inability to use information or materials available on the Edinboro Alumni Social Network Web site. By using the Edinboro Alumni Social Network Web site, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the University, and their respective agents from and against any and all losses, claims, damages, costs, and expenses that may arise from your use of the Edinboro Alumni Social Network Web site or your breach of these policies. The University will provide notice to you of any such action or claim, and reserves the right to participate, at our expense, in the investigation, settlement, and defense of any such action or claim. These provisions shall not be construed to limit the Commonwealth's rights, claims or defenses which arise as a matter of law pursuant to any use of the web site. These provisions shall not be construed to limit the sovereign immunity of the Commonwealth or of the State System of Higher Education or the University. Users of the Alumni Social Network consent to the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which shall govern use of this website. All users must comply with federal and state laws as to the use of the site, and use of the site is a courtesy and not a contractual right.

Access and use of the Alumni Social Network are at the sole discretion of the University. Be cautious about posting and sharing personal information. Users of the Alumni Social Network are advised that disclosure of their personal information is at their own risk.
